Why You Should Let Your Kid Get Bumps and Bruises

It’s true…as parents, we often want to act a gigantic bulldozers and plow all the obstacles and bumps out of the way so our kids can enjoy a life free of challenges and hurt feelings and broken hearts.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could do this?  Well, actually although this would be done out of love and compassion, we would be hurting our kids much more than helping them.  This would rob our kids of all the experiences they need to shape them into the amazing human beings they are meant to become.

In his book “Children are From Heaven,” John Gray said:

Children need compassion and help,
but they also need their unique challenges to grow
.

This is such a true statement.  What would happen if you never let your child learn to walk because they fell down the first couple of times they tried it?  Well, you’d still be carrying your child around everywhere you go.

In many areas of life, we learn more from our falls, bumps, bruises and mistakes than we do from doing things perfectly.
