Positive Parenting: Nurturing Relationships

Melts In Your Heart, Not In Your Hands

The other morning my 2 1/2-year-old came up to me and gave me a HUGE hug, looked into my eyes and with all seriousness asked me, “Mommy, do you know that I love you?”

Of course my heart melted in that moment and he could have asked me anything and I would have been powerless to say “no.”

In that precious moment my heart overflowed with love for this amazing creature that I get to raise.  I could see with clarity how practicing Parenting By The Minute and taking 60 seconds here and 60 seconds there to step into my boys’ worlds has helped to strengthen the bond of love between us.

This bond, or attachment, between parent and child is integral to success in parenting as children grow up.  It allows us as parents to guide and teach our children through the various stages of childhood into adulthood.

It’s so easy to keep this bond of love strong between you and your child.  Take a minute today and enter your child’s world.  Give them a hug, tell them you love them, ask them about what they are doing, just be there.
